NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY (NGB) AWARD COURSES

Pendarren House offers training and assessment for aspiring outdoor activity leaders in nationally recognised schemes as listed below.

Course fees include – full board, instruction, transport during the course, loan of equipment. Some courses may also have a non-residential offer.

Mountain Training is the collection of awarding bodies for skills courses and qualifications in walking, climbing and mountaineering in the UK and Ireland. Pendarren offers the Mountain Leader (summer) and the Rock Climbing Instructor. Mountain Leader training course

The Mountain Leader scheme is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader and you’ll never look back (unless you’re checking your group’s still there!). Mountain Leaders operate the length and breadth of the country with all sorts of groups of people; from scouts and schoolchildren to outdoor instructors and OAPs. The qualification is what you make it and there are countless opportunities for passionate Mountain Leaders.

The course is based from Pendarren House in the Brecon Beacons. The first part of this 6 day course utilises the Brecon Beacons and the second part (including steep ground and expedition) takes place in Snowdonia. All transport during the course is included. Pick up and drop off from Abergavenny train or bus station is available.

Mountain_Leader_training_course_notes 2018

Rock Climbing Instructor training course

This qualification is all about supervising safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags and artificial structures. Whether you’re a parent, a volunteer or an outdoor centre instructor, the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification trains and assesses experienced rock climbers to instruct climbing.
