The Friends of Pendarren is a charity set up by supporters of the Centre to enhance the education of pupils by developing relationships between staff, parents, pupils and the local community, and by engaging in activities and fund raising to develop the facilities available for pupils at Pendarren. The committee

The Friends are currently raising money for a variety of projects:

The greenhouse is adjacent to the Nicky Harrison Sensory Garden – the Friends provide resources to help the schools look after their chosen plots.

The Friends purchase the cameras and DVDs to ensure the pupils have a record of their visit. Any money from the sale of the DVD’s goes back to the Friends. As you can imagine our cameras do not last very long!

The Friends are building a library for students so that they can borrow a book during their visit. A list of books is on the Students and Parents page.

The Friends are currently providing funding to support a storyteller, Daniel Morden, as an evening activity promoting creative writing by pupils.

We are also looking at increasing the resources for students during the evenings.

Resources purchased by the Friends of Pendarren include:

visualiser

outdoor table tennis table

tipi

bat detectors

wildlife boxes

games for common rooms

DVD multi copier

binoculars for observing wildlife and the night sky

cameras and protective waterproof cases

renovation of our lovely Victorian greenhouse; students can now learn about where their food comes from and sustainable living – the children can plant, care for and harvest the food in the greenhouse and then the cooks  prepare it for their meals
